Thousands rally in Minneapolis after woman killed by ICE agent
City officials reported that around 30 people were arrested during the weekend protests, while one police officer sustained minor injuries after being struck by a piece of ice. Despite freezing temperatures, crowds gathered in Minneapolis and similar anti ICE demonstrations were held in Austin, Seattle, New York, and Los Angeles.
The Trump administration has stated that the ICE agent acted in self defense, but local authorities maintain that the victim posed no threat. Minneapolis officials emphasized that “the vast majority of community members have demonstrated peacefully.”
On Friday night, police declared an unlawful assembly outside the Canopy Hotel, where ICE agents were believed to be staying. Authorities said several hundred people joined the protest, with some forcing entry through a side entrance. Videos shared online showed demonstrators using bright lights, whistles, and drums to disrupt the area.
Police reported that some protesters threw ice, snow, and rocks at officers and vehicles, though no serious injuries occurred. One officer sustained minor wounds but did not require medical treatment.
The incident has intensified nationwide anger over immigration enforcement practices, adding fuel to ongoing debates about ICE’s role and accountability.
